DraftKings & Foxwoods; FanDuel & Mohegan Deals

Industry

Sports betting fans in Connecticut will only have to wait until fall. DraftKings & Foxwoods Resort have announced a partnership to deliver sports betting be the kickoff of the NFL Football season in September. FanDuel & Mohegan Sun Resort have also formed a partnership and should launch at about the same time.

These agreements will not only allow state residents to bet on sporting events. Both deals will enable online gaming and daily fantasy sports to take place as well. The governor of Connecticut signed the bill legalizing sports betting and the other activities in May of this year.

Although no issues are anticipated, the U.S. Department of Interior is still in the process of reviewing the agreement between the Tribal Gaming owners of the casinos and the state. They become involved any time there are changes negotiated to a compact with Native American interests.

Additionally, the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection also must draft regulations. A Mohegan Gaming representative stated that they look forward to “…grow and enhance our casino, sports book and online operations in Connecticut — and beyond”. How far beyond remains to be seen.
