The UK’s Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) has appointed Emma Floyd as its new director of sports and gambling. While Floyd is new to the gaming sector, her leadership experience will be a valuable asset to the DCMS team.
Floyd Is Excited to Get Stuck into Gambling
Confirming the appointment via a LinkedIn post, Floyd said that she is “excited to get stuck into” the gambling sector and drive a meaningful change. She emphasized that sports betting and gambling sit at the intersection of growth, regulation, and public trust. Since gambling is enjoyed by millions of Brits, Floyd noted that it is of crucial importance to get the balance between these factors right.
For reference, Floyd joins the DCMS from the Department of Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ) where she served as director of clean energy investment. The energy sector is something she has tons of experience with, having previously served as the DESNZ’s director & SRO of non-domestic energy affordability and a non-executive director at Great British Energy.
Floyd’s earlier experience includes 17 years of civil service and 2 years at the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS).
Floyd Wants to Get Under the Skin of the Issues
In her announcement, Floyd said that she is looking forward to exploring the gaming sector, working with her DCMS colleagues, and tackling many of the challenges tied to the gaming sector.
I’m looking forward to getting under the skin of the issues, working with colleagues across DCMS and wider government, and building strong relationships with the organisations and bodies that are central to how the sector operates – and across the sector more broadly to deliver in practice.

Floyd thanked her DESNZ colleagues for the incredible progress they have made in the energy world over the past few years. She said that she has learned a lot from working with them and wished them all the best.
