Brazil’s Ministry of Finance has announced plans to publish all completed licensing proceedings related to fixed-odds betting operators, making more than 25,000 documents publicly available.
The initiative was announced by Finance Minister Dario Durigan and Secretary of Prizes and Betting (SPA) head Daniele Cardoso as part of a broader effort to increase transparency in the regulation of Brazil’s betting sector.
Minister Durigan said:
My commitment, like President Lula’s commitment, is to provide transparency. This government is not a government of secrecy, it is not a government that intends to hoard information and withhold information from people. Therefore, in the coming days, all proceedings concerning companies regulated by the SPA that have been concluded, will be widely publicised.
Before publication, personal data and confidential information will be redacted to ensure compliance with data protection laws. The Ministry said the process will be carried out in partnership with the Comptroller General of the Union to accelerate the release of documents while safeguarding sensitive information.
The move comes as Brazil continues to strengthen oversight of its newly regulated betting market and follows criticism over previous restrictions on access to licensing information.
Cardoso said:
We are reinforcing monitoring and oversight actions during the competition period. We have already instructed regulated agents on the need for strict adherence to the responsible gaming rules stipulated in the legislation, we will intensify the monitoring of the campaigns.
As part of these efforts, Brazil will host its first Responsible Gaming Seminar on 16 June.
