Netherlands Fails to Secure Win Over Japan in Intense Game

The Netherlands had a fantastic opening game against Japan, and frankly – it may have been the best, most balanced, and exciting game of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The Dutch played a highly-intense game against Japan, and revealed that they have brought an A-team to the event. While maintaining a 0-score game through the 51’, the Netherlands hit out fast with the first goal by Virgil van Dijk

Their joy was short-lived as Japan managed to equalize the score only a few minutes later with Keito Nakamura shooting the ball into the Dutch net in 57’. The Netherlands responded and took the lead in 64’ realized by Crysencio Summerville, and the team then battened down the hatches and focused on defense.

Eventually, though, Japan found its way to a second goal in 89’ by Daichi Kamada, sending the tribunes in an uproar. It was a true nail-biter with multiple opportunities for both teams.

More importantly, it highlighted the strength of the Netherlands’ defense, as it came under multiple assaults but withstood nearly impeccably throughout the game. What has come under criticism however, is the Dutch more shaky attack.

Despite their wealth of talent on the offense, the team is not attacking nearly as often enough, relying on a more conservative approach to its games. Even then, the Netherlands kept the pressure in Japan’s own half, but struggled to consistently penetrate Japan’s backline.

This could be what allows Sweden to do well against its opponents, which is tipped by the oddsmakers to secure a win.

Sweden routes Tunisia in merciless 5-1 pummeling

Sweden may be the underdog, but a more accurate description would be that it is a dark horse. The Scandinavian’s win against Tunisia is telling in more than one way.

That Tunisia was outclassed is beyond any doubt, but the thing is that Tunisia itself had a pretty strong record up until the Swedish debacle. The Scandinavians were able to realize 5 goals, while conceding only one, in what was a carousel of scoring

Yasin Ayari set the score to 1-0 in favor of Sweden at 7′ and Alexander Isak added another goal at 30’. Tunisia was playing on the backfoot with Sweden prodding and probing its backline and clearly succeeding, although Tunisia clapped one back after the 40’ mark.

Overall, Sweden finished the game with three more points. Sweden is running a field of players who have been playing in the Premier League and other world-class leagues, giving them a lot of diverse experience to plow together as a team, and it showed in the game against Tunisia.

But can Sweden hold its own against the Netherlands? This is the question that remains to be seen. At odds of (+424) Sweden is the best possible wager to place on the game.

The team must not be underestimated as Sweden has scored the highest number of goals in a single game any team has in a 2026 FIFA World Cup so far as of the time of writing this.

They have a lot of potential and with a hesitant attack by the Netherlands, Sweden could quickly take the initiative and bring a win against the Dutch.

Pick: Sweden to Win (+424)
