2026 FIFA World Cup Group Stage

Colombia and DR Congo will be meeting in a fiery showdown on Tuesday, June 23. The two teams pulled off excellent games in their 2026 FIFA World Cup openers, but now – only one can pull ahead.

Colombia arguably played against a less notable team, whereas DR Congo took on Brazil and managed to lock them down, bringing the match to a hard-fought draw, and even have fans think that the team may emerge victorious. Let’s take a closer look at what is in store now.

DR Congo Holds Against Portugal, Can It Submit Colombia

DR Congo’s against Portugal was quite a remarkable one. While Portugal’s inconsistent playing is well-documented, it’s still well worth noting that DR Congo definitely put in some excellent plays to make sure that the final outcome is 1-1

Portugal failed to break the team’s defenses, even though they controlled the ball 75% of the time, failing to convert that into wins. What is more, DR Congo took advantage of the counter-offensive and punished Portugal’s momentarily lapse in paying attention when, in the 45+5’, Yoane Wissa put the ball in the Europeans’ net for a 1-1.

Not least, DR Congo managed to shoot 8 times (against 9 for Portugal) with shots on targets 2 and 3 for both teams respectively. So, the question remains, is the team capable of repeating this performance against Colombia?

Now, Colombia is no small fry, and you may argue that the team is even better than Portugal in its current form.

This claim remains to be put to a test later in the Group Stage, and if Colombia successfully dismantles DR Congo, that would be yet another way to prove that the team is cutting above its weight and that its recent success is still rubbing off on the players it fields in the tournament.

Colombia is listed as a (-192) favorite and this stands to reason. Now, DR Congo’s ability to win is questionable, with oddsmakers fixing it at (+600) which is still within the realm of possibility.

However, Wissa’s score was somewhat unexpected, which may not be enough to make you bet on DR Congo to win. A draw, though, is possible with (+327).

Pick: Draw (+327)
