The 13 Palace to Commence Trial Operations in Macau without Casino

A long-troubled Macau luxury hotel is being given a new identity and a fresh start. The property, previously called The 13 Hotel, has undergone a major renovation and rebranding and is now preparing for a limited trial run beginning June 27.

The 13 Palace Relaunches in Macau with Gold Exterior and Expanded Luxury Offerings

The relaunch marks another chapter for the Cotai-based development, which has struggled with financial setbacks and intermittent closures since it opened in 2018. The new hotel, renamed The 13 Palace, is looking to re-establish itself in the competitive high-end hospitality market in Macau after years of uncertainty, reported Macau Business

One of the most obvious changes is the look of the building. The bright red exterior has gone, replaced by a gold finish, a new brand, and a new direction. The new identity is also seen across its digital presence, including its website and social media platforms.

The hotel is said to have 199 large-scale suites, retaining the original room count. The accommodations, which are private villa-style units, range from about 2,000 to 10,000 square feet. Each suite is exclusive and private, but still has dedicated elevators and personalized butler service.

Along with accommodation, the property has expanded its food and beverage offerings. Guests will find a number of dining outlets, including Chinese, Italian, and Japanese restaurants, a café, and a bar. Notably, it adds a well-known seafood restaurant brand with a strong regional presence.

Former Casino-Driven Project The 13 Palace Returns to Market Without Gaming Operations

The hotel is also upgrading its facilities to appeal to a wider audience. Plans include better event spaces for conventions and exhibitions, and leisure facilities including a spa and swimming pool. The pool area is expected to be a draw card, with a towering vertical garden wall being touted as a potential world record holder.

The property changed ownership last year when it was sold at a greatly reduced price after an unsuccessful auction. Since then, the new owner, linked to a big name in Macau property, has been investing in refurbishments to revive what was once a very ambitious project.

The hotel was originally conceived as a high-end luxury destination for the elite gambler with plans for a casino during its early days. However, regulatory hurdles and changing market dynamics meant that the idea never got off the ground, contributing to its initial failure

The trial run is a step forward, but reservations are not yet available through major booking platforms. Industry observers say the hotel’s long-term success may depend on its ability to secure partnerships or otherwise distinguish itself in a market dominated by established integrated resorts.

For now, The 13 Palace is looking to trial its new offering and hopes to finally get a foothold after years of false starts.
