2026 FIFA World Cup Round 32

France and Sweden are going to clash as the two teams head into the Round of 32 from completely different positions. France – from one of strength, and Sweden from one of acknowledging that it has rather limited chances of advancement.

However, both Morocco and Paraguay managed to overcome their underdog positions, and eliminate arguably superior opponents in the penalties phase.

France’s A Team Will Be Set Against Sweden – Will It Be Enough?

France is returning to the Round of 32, and the team has every reason to play to its best ability.

After all, some of its main rivals are now out of the competition with Germany and the Netherlands succumbing to dramatic penalty shots against Paraguay and Morocco, respectively, stunning public expectations and throwing out the book on what bookmakers know about the event.

France, too, now comes from a position of strength, having defeated Senegal (3-0), Norway (4-1) and Iraq (3-0) during the Group Stage, with resurgent Ousmane Dembele and Desire Doue driving their team’s results and exemplifying perhaps that no other team have in the tournament – a diverse line of high-performing strikers who are capable of delivering time and again.

Kylian Mbappe and Bradley Barcola did their bit against Senegal, even though the game came down to nearly 50%-split in terms of ball possession.

France has also been remarkably good at aligning its overall shots with shots on target, meaning that when a French player is kicking towards the goalie, they have a higher-than-average chance to hit their target.

France is unique as it has not been able to entirely dominate a squad in terms of ball possession so far in the tournament, but has done something different entirely. France is able to pace itself and convert its own ball possession into goals, relying more so on launching successful attacks than pushing the ball to and fro.

If anything, the French style has allowed the country to permanently hone its defenses, respond to different flows of game, and not least – wear down opponents by allowing them to exert themselves.

Sweden’s Chances Are Slim, But the Scandinavians Will Be Pushing for a Win

Round of 32 means direct elimination and this means that there will not be any room for holding back. Sweden, though, comes from a position of disadvantage, having lost to the Netherlands in a 5-1 and trumping over Tunisia, while drawing against Japan

All of Sweden’s opponents have been eliminated from the competition so far, however, and France is a higher caliber team altogether. Sweden, though, also possesses a strong range of capable players as well.

Among those are Yasin Ayari, Alexander Isak, Viktor Gyokeres, Mattias Svanberg, and many others. But, these players usually shine against less challenging teams than France’s well-oiled offensive juggernaut and bulwark defense.

In the game against the Netherlands, the only score for Sweden was scored by Anthony Elanga in the 59’, and he did nearly the same in the draw against Japan in 62’. However, having seen two of the main teams drop out of the race so quickly, has encouraged fans to root for Sweden.

But at odds of (+645) against France’s (-865). This will be a high-scoring affair, we think, with the result easily topping 3 goals through and through, although a lingering hope remains that Sweden might be able to draw against France – an unlikely scenario. But truthfully, going up against France in the penalties seems like an even less good idea.

Pick: Over 3 (-144)
