Ecuador (+150) is coming in as the underdog to advance out of the Round of 32 against Mexico (-170), the tipped favorite. Yet, this is going to be a volatile, and likely high-scoring game with both teams committing mistakes, and able to exploit slips in each other’s play. While Mexico may be a slight favorite right now, there is no telling if Ecuador won’t be able to flip the game.

Ecuador Defeated Germany – Can It Do the Same to Mexico?
Mexico had a fairly easy group, playing against South Africa, South Korea and the Czech Republic. While all three teams posed a challenge and are considered fairly strong soccer squads, Mexico did not face a world-world champion of Germany’s caliber which Ecuador did.
With odds of (+150) this makes betting on the team a fairly tempting option, and one that might be worth pursuing. Ecuador has much to bring to the field as well, as both teams will be throwing their all to make sure that they can secure a victory and progress further in the tournament.
Round of 32 presents its own unique challenges – how much should a team sacrifice to get ahead, but when a defeat means dropping out, few teams are going to hold back if any.
While suffering a defeat to Ivory Coast and drawing against Curacao, Ecuador saw Nilson Angulo and Gonzalo Plata handle it a well-deserved victory against Germany, after an unfortunate slip in 2’ saw Ecuador trail the Europeans until 9’ when Angulo equalized the score and Plata sealed the final score in the 77’
So, Ecuador definitely has what it takes, although in the wake of Germany’s stunt defeat to Paraguay, some have questioned whether the country was never a serious contender in the tournament.
The hosts will be gunning for eliminating Ecuador
Mexico had quite a bit of success in the tournament so far, with the country defeating South Korea by a single point, and dominating South Africa in the opening game that was one of the most exciting.
Consistently, Mexico saw its diverse squad deliver, with Julian Quinones, Cesar Montes, and Raul Jimenez all proving to be strong assets to the team and managing to bring home numerous scores. Mexico also has other assets, with Luis Romo proving his worth and leading his team to victory against South Korea.
Mexico obviously has the players to turn its upcoming bout against Ecuador into a decisive stepping stone for the team’s further progress in the tournament, but a closely-matched Ecuador will do everything in its power to prevent this from happening.
Pick: Ecuador to Win (+150)
