France advances betting loss caps bill for young adults

Amendments to the Professional Sports Bill have been passed by the French lawmakers as part of the efforts to enhance gambling protection measures through mandatory limit on the amount of money an individual can lose while gambling, for all young adults age 18 to 25.

If the amendments are implemented, sportsbooks that are licensed and regulated in France would be required to impose limits on the amount of money that a younger user can lose through gambling at their establishment.

The limit has not yet been established. It will be determined by government with the Autorité Nationale des Jeux (ANJ).

This legislation comes as Pascal Chèvremont starts his tenure as president of the ANJ, with much of his work to be focused on creating the new limits for the amount of money individuals can lose while gambling on sports, as well as creating rules around advertising, preventing hazards to consumers and modifying the gambling regulations as needed.

If passed in final form, the legislative measures will create a precedent in Europe for the implementation of controls on the amount of money an individual can lose while gambling.
