UK have confirmed a 25% increase in gambling licensing fees. The new pricing will take effect as of October 1, 2026, to ensure that there are sufficient funds for the continuing operation of the UK Gambling Commission.
The increase follows the Department of Culture, Media & Sport (DCMS) providing consultation feedback on their recommended fees since the UK Gambling Commission need additional funding to support their overall operation and to provide oversight of the Industry.
The government considered 20% and 30% and settled on a 25% increase.
Most operators saying that additional fees based on increasing license fees only compound the tax burden and the statutory levy that the operators are required to pay.
Not all licensing classes will incur the same fee increases. Society lottery licensees will not incur any fee increase.
General betting licensees will utilize the new market share-based licensing structure which has been introduced based on AGGY.
Under the new structure, larger commercial operators will pay progressively higher licensing fees; the largest operators will incur the greatest amount of licensing fees.
