American Wins Record-Breaking Bingo Jackpot on Independence Day

The Fourth of July gave one lucky casino player two reasons to celebrate as he not only had the opportunity to celebrate Independence Day, but also won the biggest bingo jackpot ever. The win happened at Foxwoods Resort Casino, which sought to break the Guinness World Record for the largest payout for a game of bingo.

A New Guinness World Record Has Been Set

The tribal casino had announced its intention to hold a Guinness World Record attempt several days earlier. In its announcement, Foxwoods Resort Casino clarified that its July 4 Firecracker Bingo event would attempt to score the largest bingo payout ever.

As the casino celebrated the USA’s 250th birthday, a man by the name of Aaron P. made history by winning the record-breaking Firecracker Bingo jackpot. He took home a life-changing sum of $440,000 and, at the same time, allowed Foxwoods Resort Casino to enter the Guinness World Records book.

Aaron P. competed against some 3,000 guests who attended the Firecracker Bingo event in celebration of the Fourth of July. He wasn’t the only winner either, as the casino awarded more than $1 million in cash prizes throughout the event.

Officials were pleased with the development and congratulated Aaron P. on his win. In addition to that, Jason Guyot, president and CEO of Foxwoods Resort Casino, said that the record honored the property’s legacy.

What the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation built forty years ago wasn’t just a bingo hall. It was a blueprint. Attempting to set a Guinness World Records title on the same anniversary feels like the right way to honor that legacy, a milestone worthy of the one that started it all.

A Hostage Standoff Situation Unfolded at the Resort

While Foxwoods Resort Casino is generally a place where players can relax, enjoy themselves, and even win big, last year it became the site of a dangerous hostage situation. This happened after David R. Griswold, a 40-year-old man from Connecticut, engaged in a long standoff with local law enforcement.

Griswold had reportedly restrained two people before quickly releasing them. He was eventually arrested and admitted that he had been under the influence of heroin and cocaine.

He was charged with carrying a firearm while under the influence of drugs or alcohol, unlawful restraint, and first-degree assault.
