Playing the lottery often becomes a hardwired habit, and people may even forget whether they have bought a ticket.
This is exactly what happened in the case of a 68-year-old resident of Pinckney, Michigan, who bought not one but two tickets for Fantasy 5 after forgetting he had purchased the first one.
The result? The man ended up scooping up a pair of $110,000 jackpots with the same numbers, and will remember this life-altering anecdote for a good while, if not ever.
Winner Recounts the Story of His Double Fortune
Commenting on his win, Paul Pattwell, identified as last month’s winner, had this to say: “I’ve been playing the same sets of Fantasy 5 numbers for years and I play them every day. My wife and I were on a camping trip Up North, and I couldn’t remember if I had bought my Fantasy 5 ticket, so I stopped at the store and bought one.”
But then, he came back home from his trip the man realized he had won the newly bought ticket, still unaware about the fact that he had an identical one in the stack of tickets. After discovering the first winning ticket, he called his wife and told her the good news of winning the $110,000 pot.
He hung up but being a meticulous lottery player, went on to rummage through the rest of the tickets and found the extra ticket – which had also won with the 3, 8, 10, 14 and 20 numbers, including the Double Play.
He rang his wife right away, telling her he had won another time, and she was indeed surprised to find out that this was the case.
The man bought both tickets from Krist Food Mart at 12969 US Highway 31 North in Charlevoix and at Toski Sands Party Stor at 2292 M 119 in Petoskey.
