DraftKings Unites Multi-State Poker Network with Michigan

DraftKings continues to expand and strengthen its online poker network in the United States after the operator received a go-ahead from the Michigan Gaming Control Board (MGCB) to merge its poker operations in the Great Lakes State with the rest of the country.

DraftKings Seeks to Strengthen Its Poker Operations

The decision, confirmed on Monday, July 13, by the MGCB, means that DraftKings will experience an immediate boost to its overall player count, along with better overall liquidity.

Operations in Michigan are now merged with those in New Jersey and Pennsylvania, resulting in more options for players. MGCB executive director Henry Williams has commented on the regulator’s permission to allow the expansion:

“This approval reflects the strength of our partnership with Bay Mills Indian Community and the thoroughness of our regulatory process. As Michigan’s multistate poker network continues to grow, we remain focused on ensuring every operator meets the same high bar for fairness, security, and player protection.”

Multi-state Compact Designed to Strengthen Licensed Operators Against Offshore

DraftKings has more room to scale its network, too, with the company currently not operating in Nevada or Delaware, which are also members of the multi-state compact, and which could potentially contribute to DraftKings’ operational strength when it comes to online poker.

Online poker, however, remains the least popular vertical in the United States, and far behind segments such as sports betting and online casinos. By bringing together their state networks, however, operators can offer local players a solid experience and turf out offshore operators.
