Evolution announced that it has reached a GBP 4.75 million ($6.38 million) settlement with the UK Gambling Commission (UKGC) in relation to a license review that was initiated in 2024. The company emphasized that the settlement reflects its ethos of always seeking to do what is right.
Evolution Content Had Appeared on Unlicensed Platforms
In a press release published on July 15, Evolution confirmed the settlement, clarifying that it stems from a review initiated in December 2024. Back then, the UKGC learned that Evolution’s gaming products appeared across the six websites of two operators that offered their products to British consumers without a UK license.
Since the UK prohibits regulated suppliers from offering content to unregulated companies, the UKGC initiated the aforementioned review.
Luckily, in the 18 months since the beginning of the review, the UK regulator was unable to find a “broader pattern of unlicensed access to Evolution content in the UK.”
Evolution emphasized that it has fully cooperated with the UKGC, in line with its commitment to compliance and high standards. It also stated that it continues to take regular technical, legal, and commercial action to make sure that its games do not appear across unregulated websites.
In addition to that, Evolution said that it ended its partnerships with the two violators right after the regulatory breach was discovered.
Evolution added that it continues to reinforce its technical measures and procedures to ensure that such violations do not happen in the future. While the company acknowledged that “no system can entirely eliminate attempts by third parties to circumvent controls,” it reiterated its commitment to investing in cutting-edge compliance standards and working constructively with regulators to address these challenges.
Evolution Remains Committed to Compliance
Evolution’s chief executive officer, Martin Carlesund, commented on the matter, saying that his team always strives to do what is right. He agreed that it was not acceptable that Evolution’s content appeared across six unlicensed sites offering their products in the UK.
We do not want traffic from unlicensed operators and will always move quickly to address any such situation. We welcome the conclusion of the review and remain focused on continuing to supply our world-leading games to licensed operators in the UK.
Martin Carlesund, CEO, Evolution
In other news, a court recently blocked Evolution’s attempt to add Playtech as a defendant in a high-profile defamation lawsuit. The lawsuit relates to a damning report that damaged the former company’s reputation.
