Crypto.com has secured a $400 million strategic investment from Citadel Securities, valuing the cryptocurrency exchange at $20 billion. The deal marks the company’s first institutional funding round since its founding a decade ago.
The investment comes amid growing institutional adoption of digital assets, as cryptocurrencies increasingly become integral to global capital markets. Crypto.com said the new capital will support its expansion across multiple asset classes, including tokenized securities and derivatives, as it aims to bridge traditional finance and digital assets within a 24/7 financial ecosystem.
“We are thrilled to work with Citadel Securities to continue driving the crypto industry into a new era of institutionalization,” said Kris Marszalek, Co-Founder and CEO of Crypto.com. “The size of the opportunity in front of us is staggering, as crypto increasingly becomes the rails for finance.”
He added that the company has spent the past decade building its regulatory and technology infrastructure, positioning it to capitalize on growing demand for digital assets across multiple asset classes as crypto becomes a core part of the global financial system.
Citadel Securities President Jim Esposito said the convergence of traditional financial markets and digital asset infrastructure has the potential to improve market efficiency. “Crypto.com has built a foundation to support the continued institutionalization of the digital asset market, and we are pleased to collaborate with the Crypto.com team as we help create the capital markets of the future.”
