The Netherlands Gaming Authority (KSA) has imposed a fine on Casino Zoetermeer, as two gamblers entered and gambled at the casino, even though their names were registered in Cruks, the self-exclusion program in Netherlands.
Although the regulator set the fine at €25,000 after the beginning of the investigation in 2022, the local courts later reduced it to €21,500, since the enforcement process had taken too long.
The publication of the decision by the KSA was put off after Casino Zoetermeer tried to secure an injunction against making the ruling public, but the judge rejected the operator’s application.
Investigations started because two persons had doubts about the identity verification policy of the casino. However, the KSA found that the gambler in question was in the Cruks system when the persons in question were allowed to visit the gambling venue.
This case is the latest in the string of cases regarding Cruks. For instance, in December 2024, Unibet was fined €400,000 for similar violations, while Betnation received a warning for not conducting mandatory check-ups of its clients in June.
Apart from that, the KSA has also become more active in other areas of compliance control and imposed fines totaling €886,000 for 711, €500,000 for LeoVegas, and €3 million against Chestoption for offering unlicensed gambling services.
