The Mega Millions jackpot has reached another major milestone as it topped $800 million. While the prize continues its creep toward the $1 billion mark, the latest drawing did not award any Match 5 prizes.
The Jackpot Has Reached Another Milestone on Its Way to $1B
The Friday Mega Millions drawing had a few five-figure wins but no one succeeded in winning the jackpot or a seven-figure Match 5 prize. Still, the excitement continues to build up as the game’s top prize continues to swell in size.
For reference, the winning Mega Millions numbers drawn Friday were 2, 5, 42, 44, and 60, plus the gold Mega Ball 1. At the time of the drawing, the jackpot stood at some $743 million with a cash option of $323.4 million.
As mentioned, no one was lucky enough to match either all numbers or the five white numbers to win a huge payout. However, thirteen players succeeded in matching four white numbers plus the gold Mega Ball, securing themselves various five-figure sums. Here’s a breakdown of those wins:
- Six players won $20,000 each (2x multiplier)
- Five players won $30,000 each (3x multiplier)
- Two players won $40,000 each (4x multiplier)
Since no one won the big prize, it has continued to grow, reaching $800 million for the next drawing. A hypothetical winner would be able to either take the annuitized option for the full sum or the one-time lump sum of $344.2 million.
The next drawing is set to take place this Tuesday, July 28, at 11 pm ET.
More Mega Millions Players Win Big
In other Mega Millions news, the drawing before the one reported in this article awarded two Match 5 prizes. One of the winners was a player in California, who won a 2x prize. Normally, this would have meant a payout of $2 million. However, since California calculates prizes based on the number of tickets sold, the player will take home $7,326,642 instead, per California Lottery data. The second winner was a player in Arizona, who won a 3x prize of $3 million.
The drawing before that did not elect any Match 5 winners, but awarded a total of nine prizes to players who matched four white numbers and the Mega Ball. The top winner for that drawing scooped up a prize of $50,000.
