A lucky player in Massachusetts has just redeemed a life-changing $1 million prize from the Massachusetts State Lottery. Speaking to lottery officials, he said that his nickname appeared on his winning ticket as one of the winning words.
Jakkrit “Tan” Likhitpanyawat Wins $1M
According to the Massachusetts State Lottery, the winner of this life-changing $1 million prize was Jakkrit Likhitpanyawat, also known as “Tan.” The player was described as a resident of Quincy who bought his winning ticket at Lucky Quick Pik, located at 19 Beale St., Quincy. The store is set to receive a $10,000 bonus for the sale.
Tan won the mouth-watering prize on a $2,000,000 50X Cashword scratch-off game. Since this title is all about finding winning words across the ticket, the man was surprised when the word “tan” popped up as a winning word. When he finished scratching off the ticket, the Quincy player realized that he had won a $1 million second-tier prize from the game.
Tan visited the lottery HQ on August 3, opting to claim his winnings as a one-time lump sum of $650,000 before taxes. When asked about his plans for this incredible prize, he said that he plans to invest the money.
For reference, the $2,000,000 50X Cashword game features top prizes of $2 million. At launch, there were 5 such prizes, all of which have now been claimed. The game also featured 10 second-tier prizes of $1 million, only one of which remains unclaimed.
Massachusetts Lottery Continues to Generate Profits for the State
In the meantime, the Massachusetts Lottery recently published a report, in which representatives said that the lottery has produced a profit of roughly $1.045 billion for the Commonwealth for the fiscal year that began July 1, 2025, and ended June 30, 2026.
Further metrics showed that the lottery’s revenues for the period were roughly $5.904 billion. While these results were unaudited, State Treasurer & Massachusetts State Lottery chair Deborah B. Goldberg said that she doesn’t expect the final results to be very different.
In the meantime, Massachusetts just took its lottery online, allowing players to buy tickets via a dedicated lottery app.
