The Wednesday Powerball drawing has awarded a $1 million prize to a lucky player in Ohio. With the jackpot now standing at over $800 million, participation intensifies and so do prizes.
Powerball Player in Ohio Wins Big
The Wednesday Powerball drawing saw another lucky player win a seven-figure prize. However, the jackpot remained unclaimed, allowing it to reach a sum exceeding the recent Mega Millions one.
For reference, the winning numbers drawn on August 5 were 14, 20, 59, 60, and 61, plus the red Powerball 25. The Power Play multiplier was 2x. The jackpot stood at $794 million at the time of the drawing.
While no one succeeded in matching all six winning numbers, one player in Ohio succeeded in matching all but the Powerball. As a result, they secured a Match 5 prize of $1 million. If they had the Power Play feature active, they could have won a $2 million prize.
While Power Play did not come into play for the Ohio win, it increased the prizes of three players who matched four white numbers and the Powerball to $100,000. Twenty other players matched the same numbers but won only $50,000 since they did not have the Power Play feature active.
The Sixth Powerball Jackpot of 2026 Might Be Close
Since the Powerball jackpot remained unclaimed, it has now reached $856 million for the Saturday drawing. The cash value that a hypothetical winner would be able to choose instead of the annuity is $372 million.
For reference, the Powerball jackpot has been won 5 times in 2026. Since the Mega Millions jackpot was just won, players are eagerly expecting the Powerball jackpot to land, too.
In the meantime, many of the recent Powerball drawings ended up awarding seven-figure prizes to players in America. Last week, six players across four states won Match 5 prizes. These included three players in California, as well as one each in Maryland, Texas, and Virginia. The Virginia player had the Power Play feature active, doubling their prize.
Earlier this week, a player in Wisconsin won a Match 5 prize of $2 million. Just like the player in Virginia, the Wisconsin winner had Power Play active, resulting in double the usual payout.
