Leading cruise line Royal Caribbean has spiced up its onboard gaming offering with the addition of a new digital lottery game. The new addition effectively allows players to purchase digital versions of lottery tickets that have already been available on board.

Royal Caribbean’s new digital lottery enhances its gaming offering with the addition of an online product that can be accessed from anywhere in the ship. According to an announcement by The Royal Caribbean Blog the new game is currently being trialed on Utopia of the Seas only.
The new product allows players to use the Royal Caribbean app to buy digital versions of the scratch-off tickets that are already sold inside onboard casinos. While The Royal Caribbean Blog author Matt Hochberg admitted that he has rarely seen anyone buy the physical versions of those tickets, an online app available at players’ fingertips could potentially boost sales.
The app is already essential for The Royal Caribbean customers, since it is already used for check-in and boarding passes. This means that players wishing to give this new lottery product a try will be able to do so without any additional downloads or hassle.
The addition of the new lottery app, powered by Time Play, comes amid the rapid expansion of gaming in America and a growing demand for online gaming products.
Players Can Win Up to $100,000
According to The Royal Caribbean Blog’s Hochberg, online lottery players will not receive casino points for their play. In the meantime, they will get to choose between various tickets, ranging in price from $2 to $20.
According to Hochberg, the top prize lottery players can hope to win from these tickets is a $100,000 jackpot. Winners of sums under $2,000 will have their money instantly added to their Royal Caribbean wallet, while higher wins must be collected via the Casino Royale. Winners of over $2,000 will also have to fill in a tax form.
Other cruises have previously tried adding online gaming or betting, but the unreliable nature of open seas WiFi connection has made such products largely unenjoyable, which is why casino gaming and sports betting remains limited to ships’ onboard casinos.
At the same time, The Royal Caribbean’s mobile lottery trial will test whether the idea of an onboard online lottery product has potential.
