Israeli investigation agency Black Cube’s legal battle against Evolution continues. In a new filing, the former party suggested that a recent settlement between Evolution and the UK Gambling Commission is another testament to the validity of its claims.
Black Cube and Evolution Continue to Lock Horns
This battle started in 2021 when an anonymous damning report alleged that Evolution had committed certain regulatory violations by operating in prohibited markets. Evolution rejected the claims, saying that they seek to undermine the company. In response, the live casino company launched a crusade to uncover the identity of the report’s author.
After a few years of legal struggles, Evolution succeeded in unmasking Black Cube as the report’s author. Evolution furthermore learned that the report had been commissioned by competitor Playtech, which, as of the time of this writing, remains out of the anti-competitive lawsuit.
In any case, Evolution is currently seeking justice against Black Cube, whose report it considers to be misleading and damning. In a new filing, however, Black Cube has begged to differ.
Black Cube Says the Recent Developments Prove Its Point
In its latest report, Black Cube insisted that a recent settlement in the UK reinforced its case against Evolution. For reference, the latter company recently reached a settlement with the UKGC in relation to a license review that was initiated in 2024.
The review in question was launched due to the fact that Evolution’s gaming products had appeared across the six websites of two operators that offered their products to British consumers without a UK license. Black Cube emphasized that the violations were sufficient for the UKGC to consider revoking Evolution’s license.
Black Cube also cited the failed M&A agreement, under which Evolution would have purchased Galaxy Gaming. The deal in question fell through before certain regulatory approvals were secured.
Black Cube insisted that the court should grant its request for discovery relating to Evolution’s previous dealings with gaming regulators. For reference, an earlier request was declined.
Evolution Responded to the Filing
Evolution responded to Black Cube’s filings, saying that neither of the two situations cited by Black Cube proves its case against the live casino company.
Among other things, Evolution emphasized that, during its settlement with the UKGC, the British regulator did not discover a “wide pattern” of Evolution games appearing across unlicensed sites.
It should also be noted that, as of the time of this writing, there is insufficient information to indicate that Evolution’s failed deal with Galaxy Gaming was due to regulatory issues rather than the fact that it no longer aligned with Evolution’s strategy.
