A lucky player in Florida has won a seven-figure prize after matching all five white numbers for the Monday drawing. The jackpot, however, remained unclaimed and continued to grow.
Floridian Secures $1M Payout
The Monday drawing had Powerball enthusiasts competing for a top prize of some $34 million with a cash option of $14.8 million. However, even the luckiest and most insightful among them were not lucky enough to match all five white numbers and the Powerball, which is the requirement for winning the Powerball jackpot.
Speaking of numbers, the winning numbers drawn on August 17 were 8, 15, 25, 49, and 65, plus the red Powerball 22. The Power Play multiplier for that drawing was 4x.
As mentioned, a lucky player in Florida came close to matching all six winning numbers, only missing the Powerball. As a result, the ticket-holder is now eligible to redeem a $1 million prize. If they had the Power Play feature active, the prize they would have gotten would have been $2 million instead.
Despite the mouth-watering 4x multiplier, Power Play did not deliver a big tier-three prize either since none of the five players eligible to redeem such a prize had the feature active. For reference, the players in question matched four white numbers plus the Powerball, which netted them $50,000 each.
Powerball Jackpot Grows, UK Players Have Yet to Win a Match 5 Prize
With another drawing without a winner, the Powerball jackpot has now increased to $48 million with a cash value of $20.8 million. The next drawing is set to take place this Wednesday, providing players in the US and the UK with another shot at the top prize.
The UK joined Powerball only recently, although a player in that country has yet to win the jackpot or a Match 5 prize. The launch of the game in the UK was part of UK National Lottery operator Allwyn’s continued modernization efforts.
In the meantime, a player in Illinois recently secured the $1.04 billion Powerball jackpot, which was the second-largest jackpot win in the history of the state. The winnings will come down to $643.7 million if the winner, who has yet to come forward, decides to go with the one-time lump sum payment option.
In the meantime, players are now bracing for tonight’s Mega Millions drawing, which will put a top prize of some $100 million on the line.
