Businessman Jaime Vives Pinedo has been appointed as the new president of Coljuegos, the state entity responsible for administering and regulating gambling and games of chance in Colombia.
Vives Pinedo has been involved in various business activities in the department of Magdalena and has been associated with the Grupo Biocosta and the Chamber of Commerce of Santa Marta and the surrounding region. He has also participated in various business and leadership organizations in Santa Marta.
As president of Coljuegos, he will be responsible for regulating and overseeing gambling activities, as well as ensuring the proper management of revenues generated by the industry, which serves as a source of funding for Colombia’s healthcare system.
Among the agency’s main challenges will be strengthening the fight against illegal gambling, increasing oversight of unauthorized activities, and protecting the collection of exploitation fees that operators are required to pay.
The new president will also face the challenge of maintaining oversight of a sector that encompasses both land-based and digital gambling, while ensuring that the revenues generated are effectively allocated to the purposes established by law.
Vives Pinedo’s appointment also marks the arrival of another businessman from Magdalena to a strategic position within the national government, this time leading an entity with jurisdiction and responsibilities across Colombia.
