The Prairie Island Indian Community has promoted 25-year company veteran Mike Heavner to General Manager of Treasure Island Resort & Casino in Minnesota, continuing a pattern of internal succession at the tribally owned property.
The Tribal Council announced Heavner as general manager following a career path that began at the property in 2001 as assistant controller of gaming.
He moved into the director of finance role in 2008, a position he held for 18 years while managing the property’s financial operations. Throughout that tenure, he was called on repeatedly to serve as interim general manager, including in his current stretch since March 2025. That pattern of stepping into leadership gaps while continuing his finance duties has now culminated in his appointment to the top operating role.
“Treasure Island has been an important part of my life and career for the past 25 years, and I am honored to serve our team members, guests and the Prairie Island Indian Community members as general manager,” said Heavner.

I look forward to building on our strong foundation, delivering a first-class guest experience, supporting our team members and continuing to make Treasure Island the top resort destination and employer in our region,” he added.
During Heavner’s most recent stint as interim general manager, Treasure Island is on track for one of the strongest years in its 42-year history, with gains in visitation, guest satisfaction and team member engagement, according to the announcement.
“For more than two decades, Mike has been an integral part of Treasure Island’s success. His longevity, unwavering commitment to our team members and guests, and the trust he has built throughout the organization reflect the qualities we value most in a leader,” said Prairie Island Indian Community Tribal Council President Grant Johnson.
“We are confident that his vision, dedication and focus on sustaining the prosperity of the Prairie Island Indian Community will help guide Treasure Island’s continued success for many years to come,” Johnson added.
Before arriving at Treasure Island, Heavner worked at Primm Valley Resort & Casino near Las Vegas and held various finance positions at MGM Resorts.
Heavner’s time at the property has included oversight of capital projects, most recently a complete remodel of the hotel’s Buffalo Tower. He also led operations through the COVID-19 pandemic, a period during which Treasure Island adjusted its operating model while maintaining guest service standards and team member support.
