The New York Lottery has minted yet another winner as an incredibly lucky woman from Middletown took a seven-figure sum home. This cements the lottery’s ability to create millionaires, especially in light of a recent $10 million win that happened in the state.
Lucky Middletown Resident Scoops Up $1M
According to the New York Lottery’s official announcement, a lucky winner from Middletown, Orange County, New York, has scooped up an incredible $1,000,000 top prize from a scratch-off ticket. The winner was later identified as Penny Smith.
Smith, according to lottery officials, won her life-changing payout on a 50Xtra scratch-off ticket. As it turns out, the winning ticket was purchased from East Main Sunoco located at 209 East Main St. in Middletown.
Smith visited the New York Lottery HQ to claim her winnings. When presented with a choice between an annuity option for the full sum or a one-time lump sum option of $442,681, she went with the latter.
The New York Lottery added that, as of the time of its announcement, there was one top prize remaining in the 50Xtra ticket. For reference, the $5 game featured four top prizes of $1 million at launch. The odds of winning a top prize, according to the New York Lottery’s official website, are 1 in 3,543,400.
At launch, 50Xtra also featured 8 second-tier prizes of $2,500, only one of which is still left standing. In order to win the final second-tier prize, players have to beat odds of 1 in 1,771,700. In the meantime, the odds of winning any prize, including break-even prizes, are 1 in 4.12.
