Shaun Deeb Slowrolls Phil Hellmuth, Plays $82K Pot Against Jennifer Tilly

Hellmuth’s Home Game presented by Poker Night in America (PNIA) and sponsored by BetRivers is once again airing on CBS Sports on Monday nights.

The nationally televised show, which was filmed at the Grand Sierra Resort in Reno, Nevada, is unique in that there is no commentary. Instead, the show is carried by table talk from Phil Hellmuth alongside a cast of fellow pros and friends in an intimate, relaxed cash game setting.

PokerNews watched Episode 32, a continuation from the week prior, and compiled a recap of some of the biggest hands and interesting storylines.

Here’s how things stacked up at the start of the episode:

The game was played with $25/$50 blinds with a $50 big blind ante. Here’s a look at some of the biggest hands from the episode.

Deeb Slowrolls Hellmuth

On Hand #50 of the game, Shaun Deeb raised to $300 from the hijack with the Q♠J♠ and Hellmuth just called from the button with the A♠A♣. Xuan Liu came along from the straddle with the 7♦6♥ and it was three-way action to the flop of Q♣A♦10♦, which all three players checked.

The K♦ turn gave Deeb a straight, but once again it checked around. The 5♣ river was a brick, Xuan checked, and Deeb bet $1,000. Hellmuth called with his set of aces and Xuan folded.

“You win,” Deeb said, prompting Hellmuth to confidently table his three aces. Deeb smirked a bit, took his time, and then tabled his winning hand to claim the modest $3,025 pot.

“I was expecting him to slowroll me,” a laidback Hellmuth claimed.

Running It Once

With a straddle of $400 on, Dan Cates called from the small blind with the 8♥7♥ before Deeb raised to $2,000 from the first straddle. Tilly, who had double straddled, then three-bet to $6,000 with the J♥J♣ and Hellmuth folded from the $400 straddle.

Cates got out of the way, Deeb moved all in, and Tilly quickly called off for $18,125 total to create a $37,150 pot. It was a coinflip, and Deeb wanted to run it just once.

The Q♥10♣9♥ flop kept Tilly in the lead, as did the Q♠ turn. The 9♠ on the river double paired on the board, but Tilly claimed the pot thanks to her two pair queens and jacks.

A Really Weird Hand

As Deeb was adding on $20,000, a big hand developed between him and Cates. It started when the latter raised to $250 from the cutoff with the 8♦4♦. Deeb called from the small blind with the A♥Q♣, and the rest of the players folded to make it heads-up action to a flop of A♠Q♦4♥.

Deeb checked top two pair, and Cates bet $500 with bottom pair. Deeb then check-raised to $1,500, Cates called, and the 3♦ appeared on the turn. Deeb tossed out a bet of $4,500, and Cates called with his added diamond flush draw, which he missed after the 3♣ paired the board on the river.

Deeb moved all in for $16,475, and Cates asked for a count.

“This is a really weird hand,” Cates said. “Guess I can chop, unless this is six-five suited, which is possible.”

Eventually Cates called only to see a pot worth $45,650 pushed to Deeb.

“Just Lucky to Win My Races”

Cates opened for $250 on the button with the 9♣5♥ and Deeb three-bet to $1,100 with the A♥K♣ in the big blind. Tilly then looked down at the Q♥Q♣ in the straddle and four-bet to $5,100, which prompted Cates to fold and Deeb to five-bet to $15,000 out of his $45,400 stack.

Tilly, who had $31,574 back, moved all in for $36,575 total and Deeb called.

“Another race,” Tilly observed before Deeb said he only wanted to run it once.

The 4♠4♣6♠ flop was no help to Deeb, and neither was the 2♣ turn. He needed to find either an ace or king on the river to win the $73,475 pot, but it was not meant to be as the 10♦ bricked.

“Wow, she does it again,” Hellmuth said. “Unbelievable.”

“Just lucky to win my races,” a happy Tilly said as she pulled in the pot.

Deeb Gets It Back

Cates raised to $250 from early position with the 10♠7♠ and Xuan Liu three-bet to $800 from the hijack with the 9♥7♥. Deeb then made it $2,500 to go from the cutoff with the K♠K♦ and Tilly five-bet to $6,000 from the button with the Q♥Q♣.

The blinds folded, both Cates and Xuan got out of the way, and Deeb paused for a few beats before six-betting to $17,500. Tilly took her time and seemed suspicious, but she moved all in nonetheless. Deeb snap-called off the $22,625 he had behind and an $81,525 pot was on the line.

“I had a feeling you had me,” Tilly said.

Once again, it was run just once, and Deeb held strong as the board came out 8♠5♣J♦A♠10♥.

“I had a feeling you had it this time, but I can’t fold pocket queens preflop,” Tilly admitted as she paid off her opponent.
