In late August, PokerNews was in Spain for the European Poker Tour (EPT) Barcelona, which was comprised of a full schedule of events. The PokerNews was on hand to capture big and game-changing hands.
That included the €5,300 EPT Main Event, a tournament that drew 1,823 entries and awarded a €8,841,550 prize pool.
Here’s a look at some of the big and game-changing hands as reported by the PokerNews Live Reporting Team.
Gutyi Flops the Nuts to Bust Brandt
On Day 1a, reporter Tim Baker caught a big hand in Level 9 (600/1,200/1,200) when it was four-way sto the 5♠Q♠2♠ flop with about 15,000 in the pot, the action checked around to Nazar Buhaiov in the cutoff, who bet 3,500. Jamie O’Connor called from the small blind before Mykhailo Gutyi check-raised to 14,000 from the big blind. Piet Brandt then jammed for 49,500 from the hijack.
Buhaiov went deep into the tank, continuously looking back at his cards. After about two minutes, he folded, and O’Connor also got out of the way. Gutyi called and the cards were turned over.

Mykhailo Gutyi: A♠4♠
Brandt needed a runner-runner full house to beat Gutyi’s flopped nut flush.
The board-pairing Q♦ turn gave Brandt a glimmer of hope, but it was quickly extinguished when the 8♥ river bricked out.
Brandt headed for the showers, while Gutyi climbed to almost 200,000. After the hand, Buhaiov indicated that he had folded a flush when faced with all the action.
Quads For Liviu
In the same level, Baker caught another big hand. From under the gun, Ignat Liviu checked the turn on a board of 2♠6♦Q♥Q♦, and Daniel Jackson bet around 11,500 from the next seat. Liviu check-jammed for 21,000, which Jackson quickly called.

Liviu had a boat against Jackson’s trips, leaving Jackson in need of some help on the river.
Instead, the 6♥ gave Liviu quads, securing him the double-up at Jackson’s expense.
Dwyer Cracks Karlsson’s Kings in Gargantuan Pot
One level later, reporter Frank Visser saw a pot that had swelled well over 50,000 when Jakob Karlsson checked the 6♦10♥3♣ flop from the hijack. Michael Dwyer then pushed all-in from the cutoff, and Karlsson called for around 80,000 after a few seconds of thought.

Karlsson’s kings were in good shape against the top pair of Dwyer. The 5♦ brought no help to the Irishman, but the J♥ river brought him two pair to best Karlsson’s kings and decide the huge clash in his favor.
Over at another table, 2005 EPT London champion Mark Teltscher was also spotted with a stack of around ten starting stacks.

Hero-Call Punished as Ivarsson Rivers Straight Flush
On Day 3 of the tournament, it was Level 19 (5,000/10,000/10,000) when reporter Stewart Morrison witnessed Joao Webber raise to 20,000 in early position, which Alexander Ivarsson called in the cutoff. Ivo Colaco then three-bet to 45,000 on the button, which removed Webber, but Ivarsson called once again.
When Ivarsson checked on the J♠2♣4♣ flop, Colaco continued with a bet of 45,000, leaving roughly 200,000 behind in his stack. Ivarsson didn’t hang around to try to get the remaining chips in, check-jamming, with Colaco’s stack comfortably covered. After some time in the tank, Colaco elected to call.

Alexander Ivarsson: 6♣5♣
Colaco had sniffed out that his ace-high was the best hand, but his decision to call was quickly punished as the 5♦ turn saw Ivarsson take the lead.
The 3♣ completed the board, with Ivarsson eliminating Colaco in style after rivering a straight flush.
On Day 3 in Level 20 (6,000/12,000/12,000), Baker captured one of the last hands of the night when Alexander Ivarsson made it 24,000 under the gun, and Sebastian Malec three-bet the small blind to 36,000.
Ivarsson four-bet to 90,000, and after using a time bank, Malec said “raise” and tried to put in more chips, but it was deemed a min-raise, and he was forced to make it 149,000.
Ivarsson thought for a bit, looked over at Malec, and then ripped it for around 700,000. Malec snap-called.

Ivarsson got it in with the lesser hand and needed a date with an eight, or he would be eliminated just before the end of Day 3.
The 10♣9♦Q♦ flop didn’t help Ivarsson, and neither did the 2♠ turn. A 5♣ completed the board, and all of Ivarsson’s chips were sent over to Malec.
