SOFTSWISS to examine costs of African iGaming expansion in LinkedIn Live panel

iGaming technology provider SOFTSWISS will host a LinkedIn Live panel on Sept. 24 at 14:00 CET examining the financial and regulatory challenges of entering African iGaming markets, with South Africa as a practical case.

The panel, titled “Not a Cheap Bet: The Economics of Launch in the African iGaming Market”, will bring together representatives from the Mpumalanga Economic Regulator, operator Jabula Bets, consultancy Legends Gaming and Management Solutions, and SOFTSWISS.

The discussion will focus on the costs of market entry, the suitability of different African jurisdictions for specific business models, and how South Africa compares with other opportunities across the continent.

Panelists will also consider where operators should prioritise investment to support long-term viability as Africa’s iGaming sector continues to attract interest.

Operators see Africa as a growth opportunity, but the financial reality of entry requires careful planning. The continent isn’t a single market – each jurisdiction presents different costs, regulatory frameworks, and commercial dynamics. This panel provides operators with the intelligence they need to evaluate whether and where African expansion makes commercial sense for their business,” said Mariia Halaida, Head of Business Development in Africa at SOFTSWISS.

The event will examine market expansion from the perspectives of operators, consultants, regulators and technology providers.

Vusi Mtsweni, CEO of the Mpumalanga Economic Regulator, said companies entering regulated markets need to assess not only commercial potential but also regulatory and compliance requirements.

“Entering any regulated market requires more than an assessment of its commercial potential. Businesses need to understand the regulatory environment, their compliance obligations and the broader responsibilities that come with operating in the market,” Mtsweni said.

From a regulatory perspective, we welcome informed and constructive conversations that help industry participants better understand these requirements. Ultimately, sustainable growth in the African iGaming sector must be underpinned by regulatory compliance, responsible gambling, consumer protection and a commitment to operating with integrity,” he added.

The panel will be held at 14:00 CET and is open to iGaming professionals through free registration. Participants can submit questions related to African markets in advance for discussion during the session.

SOFTSWISS also highlighted its iGaming in South Africa report, which analyses the country’s market structure and regulatory requirements for operators seeking additional market context.
