Bluff Gone Wrong Sees Top Stack Bubble $200,000 Triton Invitational

Life comes at you fast.

Semi Sun had a top-three stack on the bubble of the $200,000 Triton Invitational at Triton Jeju Super High Roller Series Jeju II, but he left the tournament empty handed as the poker player from the Phillipines missed out on a $305,000 payday.

Yang Wang, the player who busted Sun, had himself been at risk himself minutes earlier, but he picked up pocket aces to double and become the table chip leader. And that would end up being bad news for Sun.

Sun Goes Down

Sun was the table chip leader when hand-for-hand play began in the Triton Invitational, which drew 172 runners for a prize pool of $34,600,000.

It would be several hands before the bubble burst as there were a half-dozen double-ups, including for his table mate, Wang, who doubled with aces through the pocket jacks of Jesse Lonis to leave the American pro short.

It wasn’t Lonis who bubbled the event, but rather another big stack at the table.

The hand, captured by PokerNews live reporter Stewart Morrison, took place during Level 20 with blinds of 30,000/60,000/60,000.

Wang raised to 140,000 from middle position, and Sun called on the button.

Wang continued for 225,000 on a 7♣7♠8♠ flop, and Sun called. The A♥ turn did nothing to slow Wang down, as he barreled for 450,000. This time, however, Sun elected to raise, making it 1,100,000, and Wang called.

The Q♠ completed the board, and Wang checked. Sun wasn’t done yet, though, as he moved all-in for 2,100,000, jamming into one of the only players in the tournament who had him covered. Wang wasted no time in calling, tabling A♦7♥ as he did, good for a full house. Sun flipped over 8♣5♣, having unsuccessfully turned his pair of eights into a bluff.

And just like that, Sun went from a seven-figure stack to out. While the remaining 31 players made the money, Sun was left to contemplate his play from the sidelines.

The three-day event, which pairs VIPs with top poker pros, will play to a winner on Monday, Sept. 14 and will award $7,250,000 to the champion. PokerNews is on-site live reporting the action.
