Great Britain’s customer-facing gambling industry generated £17.5 billion ($23.35 billion) in Gross Gambling Yield (GGY) in the financial year to March 2026, up 4.4% year-on-year, according to annual statistics published by the Gambling Commission.
GGY excluding all reported lotteries rose 4.7% to £13.2 billion ($17.61billion), while National Lottery revenue reached £3.47 billion ($4.63 billion), accounting for around 20% of overall gambling GGY. The latest increase marked the fifth consecutive year of overall GGY growth since 2020/21.
The Commission said remote casino, betting and bingo GGY rose 6.9% to £8.3 billion ($11.08 billion), with online casino the main growth driver. Online casino GGY increased 14.8% to £5.7 billion, while slots revenue rose 15.5% to £4.79 billion, representing about 84% of online casino revenue.
Online betting GGY fell 6.6% to £2.45 billion ($3.27 billion), although turnover increased about 4.5%. Football generated £1.17 billion in online betting GGY, followed by horseracing at £769 million. Online bingo GGY fell 13.8% to £148 million.
Land-based gambling GGY rose 1.1% to £4.86 billion. Licensed gambling premises declined 2% to 8,081, including a 3.6% fall in betting shops to 5,617.
The latest GSGB data showed 49% of adults had gambled in the previous four weeks, falling to 28% when lottery-only participants were excluded. The Commission said the figures measure participation, rather than problem gambling or gambling-related harm.
