RMG Names Ex-National Lottery CEO Nigel Railton as Chair

Racecourse Media Group (RMG), the holding company responsible for media and data rights for a host of horse racing destinations, announced the appointment of a new chairman. The one up to the task is the experienced Nigel Railton, who has spent years as the CEO of the previous National Lottery custodian, Camelot.

Railton Is a Highly Experienced Individual

The announcement comes as the company’s current chair, Conor Grant, prepares to exit the RMG team on October 1. Grant will remain on board as an advisor for an additional month to ensure an orderly transition of responsibilities.

In the meantime, Railton will take over as chair, bringing significant expertise to the company. According to RMG, the appointee is a distinguished leader, whose career spans media, consumer-facing and highly regulated businesses.

Railton currently serves as chair of Post Office. He has worked for this company since May 2024, leading its transformation program and shareholder rebuilding efforts. At the same time, he is a trustee of The Social Mobility Foundation.

Before that, Railton spent time as CEO of Camelot UK, the previous National Lottery license holder. During that time, he helped the company expand its digital operations. Before that, he served as CEO of Camelot Global, helping the broader business make strides in Ireland, Europe, and the US.

Earlier still, Railton held senior finance, operations and strategy roles at Railtrack, Black & Decker and Daewoo Cars.

The RMG Leadership Welcomed Railton Aboard

James Sanderson, non-executive director at RMG, was pleased with Railton’s appointment. Sanderson lauded the appointee’s “outstanding blend of commercial leadership, governance experience and strategic vision” and praised Railton’s impressive track record leading many recognizable organizations in the UK.

His track record of delivering growth, embracing innovation and building strong relationships with stakeholders makes him an ideal fit for RMG and our shareholder racecourses. As we look to the future of racing media rights and fan engagement, Nigel’s leadership will be a tremendous asset to the business and the sport.

Railton was similarly pleased with his appointment. He described RMG as a “highly respected organization” and said that it has a proven track record of value generation. To top it all off, Railton applauded RMG for helping to promote horse racing to a global audience of sports fans.

The media landscape continues to evolve rapidly, creating both opportunities and challenges. I look forward to working with the Board, Nick Mills and the wider team to build on the company’s success, strengthen its partnerships and support the long-term growth and sustainability of racing.
