The World Poker Tour is in the Land Down Under for a festival, which crowned a big winner in the WPT Prime Australia Championship on Wednesday.
Cooper Feltham, following a heads-up chop and a lucky river card, won the AUD $1,500 tournament for $187,793 at The Star Sydney.
Big Win, Fortunate River Card for Feltham
Feltham, an Australian pro, had over $1 million (USD) in live tournament results before entering the WPT Prime event. He’d increase that by a sizable amount after finishing off Ling Liu heads-up for the title.
Liu, who trailed nearly 3:1 in chips at the time, had a shot to jump into the chip lead when she moved all in preflop with A♠7♥. She was thrilled to see Feltham called with A♦2♥ because she was out in front.
The 4♦J♦4♥ flop wasn’t too scary for Liu, although her opponent had picked up some backdoor draws. Feltham would get some help with the 3♠, which gave him a gutshot straight draw, a draw that he’d hit when the 5♠ appeared on the river. Liu had to settle for second place and AUD $161,127.

The World Poker Tour isn’t done in Sydney. Cards are in the air for Day 1a of the AUD $5,000 WPT Australia Championship, a Main Tour event with three Day 1 starting flights. Alan Pham is the defending champion after having won it last year for AUD $558,211.
