Kansas Entertainment, a joint venture between PENN Entertainment and NASCAR, hosted a groundbreaking ceremony on Friday for a new boutique hotel adjacent to Hollywood Casino at Kansas Speedway.
The hotel will be affiliated with the Tribute Portfolio, part of Marriott Bonvoy, and will be financed, developed, and operated by Prime Group US and Shaner Hotels, with Kansas Entertainment contributing vacant land for the project.
The roughly 140-room hotel is expected to open in 2028 as new development continues around the Village West entertainment district in Kansas City, Kansas.
The hotel will be connected to the casino’s west entrance. Plans include rooms and suites, while details covering food and beverage offerings, meeting space, and other amenities will be announced later.
Prime Group US, a privately held real estate investment, development and management firm based in South Florida, is financing and developing the project. Shaner Hotels, based in State College, Pennsylvania, will operate the property. Shaner has more than $1 billion invested in 75 hotel properties owned and managed across the United States, Italy and the Bahamas.
Kansas Entertainment, a joint venture between PENN Entertainment and NASCAR, is contributing vacant land for the development. The venture held a groundbreaking ceremony at 10 a.m. CST on Friday, with area dignitaries and local stakeholders attending.
Representatives from the Kansas Racing and Gaming Commission, Kansas Lottery, and the Unified Government of Wyandotte County and Kansas City, Kansas, were among those at the ceremony.
“This will be an incredible addition to the Village West entertainment district and furthers Kansas Entertainment’s commitment to economic development in Wyandotte County,” said Pat Warren, President of Kansas Speedway.
“PENN Entertainment has been a fantastic partner and we can’t wait to welcome visitors to the new hotel, where they’ll have convenient access to the casino, speedway, and all that the area has to offer.”
Hollywood Casino is located on turn two of Kansas Speedway in the Village West area of Kansas City in Wyandotte County. The speedway hosts NASCAR races, including the Hollywood Casino 400, as well as dozens of major events each year.
Village West is also home to Children’s Mercy Park, the home stadium of Major League Soccer’s Sporting KC, along with large-scale shopping outlets and other attractions. Buc-ee’s is developing a travel center property adjacent to Hollywood Casino, while the National Football League’s Kansas City Chiefs are expected to open their new stadium in Village West in 2031.
