The much-anticipated heavyweight boxing bout between Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua was finally settled last Thursday, with a tentative date set for December 11, 2026. Yet, only hours later, The Jypsy King took to social media to question whether the Cardiff fight would go through at all.
Joshua vs Fury May Be on the Rocks Due to AJ’s Camp
The initial confirmation on Thursday to hold the biggest fight in British boxing history at Principality Stadium came after months of negotiations between the two teams, with Saudi boxing powerbroker Turki Alalshikh finally announcing the details of the fight last week.
However, Fury claims that the fight may be called off, with supposedly Eddie Hearn and Anthony Joshua trying to pull out, taking a shot at Hearn.
“They’re saying they’re not going to fight now. It’s mainly to do with Eddie Hearn’s ego. He’s making up a million different things and threatening, ‘we’re not gonna fight’,” Fury said.
“Now the Gypsy King is coming back to the United Kingdom to thrash you in front of all my fans in Wales, and now you are making a million excuses. Now you’ve got Turki Alalshikh finding alternative, real men who will fight at the drop of a hat.
I hope you are happy,” Fury added, suggesting that a fight will be taking place anyway, with Alalshikh reportedly already looking for possible subs should AJ drop out.
A fight between AJ and The Gypsy King would easily be the biggest clash ever seen in boxing, as both fighters have maintained a rivalry and have called each other out, mocking their fighting style, their losses, and overall behavior.
Both Fighters Have Struggled Some after Usyk’s Defeat, But AJ More
But for all the outward rivalry, there have been few moments in their careers where both pivoted decisively towards a fight with the other. This could finally be changing unless Fury is right.
Since losing to Oleksandr Usyk, the Ukrainian who triumphed over both opponents in highly contested fights, both AJ and Fury have lost a bit of their competitive spryness, having to come to terms with the fact that despite their physical advantage over Usyk, they could not win across four fights for both players.
Joshua recently had a difficult bout against Kristian Prenga, who knocked him down twice in the very first round, but AJ rallied and closed the bout in the second round, showing that AJ can be caught off-guard, much like in his notorious fight against Andy Ruiz Jr.
While Fury was supposed to retire after his defeat to Usyk, the Gypsy King flew to Thailand to begin training and he defeated Arslanbek Makhmudov at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London, UK, in April.
