Rau Lee Davis Jr., 50, is facing charges after he allegedly shot two people in Pompano Beach, Florida, following an argument while they were gambling. The shooting left one dead and another injured.
Davis Is Accused of Murder and Attempted Murder
Davis is facing charges of second-degree murder and attempted murder. According to investigators, the incident happened on Friday, October 2, in Pompano Beach, in the 1500 block of N.W. Seventh Ave., where Davis and two other men, one of whom was identified as Robert Vaughn, 46, were gambling.
At one point, an argument broke out, and Davis pulled out a gun and shot the other two men. Broward Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to calls from neighbors who heard the shots around 11:53 pm. Pompano Beach Fire Rescue pronounced Vaughn dead at the scene. The second victim was treated for his injuries, but authorities have not released his name or disclosed his condition.
According to investigators, Davis had fled the scene following the shooting but later returned. Detectives arrested Davis and charged him with second-degree murder and attempted second-degree murder. Neighbors said that they did not witness the events leading up to the shooting. One resident said they heard gunshots, while others said they did not know the victims.
Inmate records show that Broward Sheriff’s Office Corrections was holding Davis without bond over the weekend at the Main Jail in Fort Lauderdale. During Davis’ court appearance on Sunday, a judge denied bond on the murder charge but set bond at $500,000 on the attempted murder charge. The Broward Sheriff’s Office Homicide Unit and Crime Scene Unit are investigating the case.
