A lucky player in Louisiana has won a Match 5 prize from the Powerball game. Since the player had the Power Play feature active, they will be able to take home $2 million. At the same time, the top prize survived and is now nearing the $500 million mark.
Louisiana Player Won Big
The Monday drawing saw Powerball players compete for a top prize of $463 million with a cash value of $190.9 million. While no one was able to win it, one player came very close after matching all five white numbers except the Powerball.
Speaking of winning numbers, the ones drawn on October 5 were 16, 23, 32, 36, and 54, plus the red Powerball 9. The Power Play multiplier for that drawing was 2x.
As mentioned, one player in Louisiana managed to snatch a Match 5 + Power Play prize of $2 million, making them the latest millionaire created by the Powerball game.
While the Monday drawing did not have any more winners of seven-figure prizes, many players won smaller ones, including a few five- or six-figure ones. For reference, seventeen players who matched four white numbers plus the red Powerball took home $50,000 each, while a single player who matched four white numbers plus the red Powerball took $100,000 thanks to Power Play.
Powerball Jackpot Could Hit $500M if No One Wins This Wednesday
Since the Powerball jackpot remained unclaimed, it continued to grow and has now reached $485 million. A hypothetical winner will be presented with a choice between the annuity option for the full sum or the one-time lump sum payment of $199.8 million.
The next drawing is set to take place this Wednesday. If it goes without a winner, the top prize will likely hit the $500 million mark and the lump sum option will most certainly exceed $200 million.
The past few Powerball drawings have been awarding seven-figure Match 5 sums on a fairly regular basis. The October 3 drawing, for example, saw a player in Arizona win $1 million from the game. On September 30, on the other hand, a lucky Texan scooped up a similar sum.
The September 28 drawing was even more exciting, as it ended up awarding four Match 5 prizes. Three of the winners were players in Illinois, New York, and North Carolina who took home $1 million each. A player in Puerto Rico, on the other hand, took home $2 million thanks to Power Play.
