The Mega Millions jackpot has reached $345 million for tonight’s drawing after last Friday’s drawing went without a big winner. The Friday drawing was not entirely uneventful, however, as a player in Wisconsin found themselves $4 million richer thanks to the game.
Wisconsin Ticket-Holder Won $4M
The Friday Mega Millions drawing saw an incredible seven-figure payout happen, but the jackpot survived since no one managed to match all six winning numbers. For reference, the winning numbers drawn on October 2 were 6, 37, 40, 41, and 55, plus the gold Mega Ball 10.
Matching all six numbers would have meant a payout of $321 million, or $131.1 million if a hypothetical winner had chosen the one-time lump sum payment. While a win of this caliber failed to materialize, one player managed to match all five white numbers.
The Match 5 winner in question was revealed to be a ticket-holder in Wisconsin, whose Mega Ball ticket with a 4x multiplier turned into a $4 million payday.
In addition to the Wisconsin winner, several players matched four white numbers and the Mega Ball, which netted them tier three prizes. Here’s a breakdown of those wins:
- Three players took home $20,000 (2x multiplier)
- One player took home $30,000 (3x multiplier)
- One player took home $40,000 (4x multiplier)
The Jackpot Has Reached $345M for Tonight
Since the Mega Millions jackpot survived the drawing, it has now continued to grow. As of the time of this writing, the game’s top prize is $345 million. If someone manages to win the jackpot, they would be able to take the annuity option for the full sum or the one-time payment of $139.6 million.
The next drawing is set to take place today, October 6, at 11 pm ET.
Previously, a Mega Millions player in Colorado, who was competing for September 22’s jackpot of $261 million, narrowly missed the top prize, taking home $2 million instead.
In other lottery news, the Powerball jackpot is nearing the $500 million mark. That game’s Monday drawing did not award the top prize, but saw a lucky player in Louisiana win a $2 million Match 5 prize. This happened shortly after Powerball granted other seven-figure payouts.
