Betfred reports £64m pre-tax profit

Betfred has reported pre-tax profits of £64m for the financial year ending March 29, 2026, with retail contributing over half of the firm’s total sales.

According to records submitted to Companies House, the company returned £64m in pre-tax profits for its 52-week accounting period, which is shorter than last year’s 78 weeks accounting duration. Thus, comparisons between periods’ performance cannot be made directly because of the difference in periods’ lengths.

The company reported £7.1m in exceptional charges, which include £4.6m for costs incurred in connection with failed acquisition efforts. Issues related to Betfred’s exit from the American market created a need for incurring those exceptional charges. Retail turnover accounted for the majority of Betfred’s sales, having generated £544m while online turnover amounted to £451.7m over the same period.

Betfred stated gross profit of £720 million after the deduction of the gambling tax, the gaming tax on machines, and other expenses of business operations.

The company announced the following taxation levels: betting tax rate £147.4 million, gaming tax on machines £54.5 million, gambling duty £18.6 million, and commission cost £55.1 million.

The operating profit amounted to £74.1 million, the profit before tax was £64 million. The profit amount achieved from the company’s activities is £39.6 million after tax amounting to £24.4 million included. The comprehensive revenue reached a total of £48.7 million including foreign exchange positive difference hovering at £9.5 million.

The period under consideration does not include the increased level of the UK taxes on betting operating since April 2026.

Betfred reported about the plans to shut down 132 betting shops in the UK in July. This number is around 10% of its entire retail network. The actions taken by the company will lead to 600 jobs lost; Fred Done stated that the tax increase would jeopardize the existence of the company in the UK.
