Ukrainian Wins $12K in Time for the 888 PokerNews Online Championship

888 $80,000 Mystery Bounty Main Event

The PokerNews Online Championship is right around the corner, with the first events set to shuffle up and deal on 888 on October 18. Everyone competing in this online series wants to go into it in good form, and what better way to warm up for the busy schedule than winning $12,130 a week prior?

That is precisely what Uktaine’s “toptiersir” did on October 12. They triumphed in the $80,000 Mystery Bounty Main Event at 888, turning a $109 investment into $12,130 and the title of champion.

$80,000 Mystery Bounty Main Event Final Table Results

Rank Player Country Bounties Prize Total Prize
1 toptiersir Ukraine $5,594 $6,536 $12,130
2 Jwarriner11 United Kingdom $1,661 $4,980 $6,641
3 YAMAHA1311 Ukraine $216 $3,580 $3,796
4 LRigos94 Brazil $4,669 $2,424 $7,093
5 kojgysto888 Denmark $354 $1,604 $1,958
6 Stago44 Germany $478 $1,188 $1,666
7 neverback Romania $1,830 $840 $2,670
8 jekazavod92 Denmark $123 $640 $763

Usually in this tournament, there is a runaway chip leader at the final table, with everyone else playing catch-up. However, this week saw only 21 big blinds separate “neverback” in first place and “Jwarriner11” bringing up the rear in eighth.

There was plenty of action during the opening 35 minutes, but no elimination. The deadlock was broken when “jekazavod92” got their last 4.4 big blinds into the middle with king-queen, which lost to the ace-queen of spades in the hand of “Jwarriner11.”

It may have taken 35 minutes for the first finalists to fall, but only another 90 for a champion to be crowned.

Huge PokerNews Online Championship Returns to 888 From October 18

Start-of-the-day chip leader “neverback” lost their last eight big blinds with ace-ten against king-nine before Germany’s “Stago44” allowed their stack to dwindle to less than a big blind before losing with queen-jack of spades against ace-king.

Danish grinder “kojgysto888” lost all but 1.3 big blinds when their king-ten lost to pocket aces, and they couldn’t find a spin up. Their elimination left only four players in contention for the title.

Fourth place awarded more than the second-place prize money thanks to the mystery bounty element of the tournament. Brazil’s “LRigos94” had accumulated $4,669 worth of bounties when they were involved in a three-way all-in pot.

“Jwarriner11” min-raised with pocket sevens, “LRigos94” shoved their short stack with king-queen in the small blind before “YAMAHA1311” shoved for 11 big blinds in the big blind with king-three of clubs. “Jwarriner11” called, flopped a set, and sent two opponents to the rail.

That double elimination gave “Jwarriner11” a narrow 47.4 to 43.4 big blind advantage over “toptiersir” going into the heads-up battle. It was a complete turnaround as the leader started eighth from eight in chips when the final table action began.

The chip lead exchanged hands several times, but neither player managed to pull away from the other. That was until “toptiersir” turned a straight in a hand that gave “Jwarriner11” two pair.

“toptiersir” had a lead of more than five-to-one at the time of the final hand. They min-raised with king-queen and quickly called when “Jwarriner11” shoved for 12 big blinds with ace-six of clubs. A king on the flop left the at-risk player needing to spike an ace to stay in the tournament. They hit a six, but it was not enough to hand the title and the $12,130 top prize to Ukraine’s “toptiersir.”
