The 2026 Gaming in Spain Conference will take place in Madrid on October 15, bringing together regulatory officials, industry representatives, legal experts and law enforcement officials to discuss developments in Spain’s regulated iGaming market.
The event will be held at the Auditorio ECIJA and will feature presentations from key stakeholders, including Mikel Arana, director general of Spain’s Directorate General for the Regulation of Gambling (DGOJ); Justo Sancho, DGOJ’s director of safe gambling; and Jorge Hinojosa, director general of industry trade association Jdigital.
Other speakers include David Calvete Sarasa, chief inspector at the National Police, and Xavi Munoz Bellvehí, managing partner at ECIJA Barcelona.
The conference comes as Spain’s regulated iGaming industry faces several regulatory changes, including the implementation of cross-operator deposit limits and a central problem gambling detection algorithm mandated by the DGOJ.
The government has also announced plans for fundamental amendments to Spain’s Gambling Act.
Spanish-licensed operators, represented by Jdigital, have initiated judicial proceedings against the government’s plans to introduce cross-operator deposit limits. Operators have also indicated that they will not cooperate with the government’s current plans to overhaul the country’s gambling legislation.
The regulatory debate comes amid political uncertainty following Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez’s call for snap elections on November 29, ahead of the parliamentary elections expected in 2027.
The decision followed widespread protests over housing shortages and opposition parties’ refusal to provide the support needed for the government’s efforts to address the housing crisis.
The political outcome could influence the timeline for implementing the announced gambling reforms, with the conference expected to address the implications of the election and the industry’s regulatory outlook.
The full agenda is available on the Gaming in Spain website. Registration for the October 15 event is open.
