An engineering college student had a bit of bad luck at a gas station in Concord, North Carolina, which turned out to be probably one of the best things that has ever happened to him.
Engineering Student Wins Powerball Jackpot after Gas Pump Malfunction
The winner of a $2,000,000 jackpot, Bram Dunehew, won from the Powerball after the gas pump at Sam’s Mart on NC 49 in Harrisburg failed to print out a receipt, so he had to walk into the building and ask for it to be fixed.
While sorting this out, he snatched a $3 ticket for Saturday’s Halloween Powerball drawing and successfully matched all five numbers, securing him a $1,000,000 payout, which was then doubled through the Power Play option.
“It’s crazy because I never would have even bought that ticket if the receipt printed outside,” Dunehew confirmed, just as surprised at his own luck. He leaned into how unlikely the whole thing was:
“It’s absolutely preposterous. I fell over when I saw it. I think Halloween’s now my favorite holiday. Trick or treating was fun as a kid, but this is insane.”
Dunehew has naturally claimed his reward after he appeared at the lottery’s headquarters on Monday, November 2, and opted for the lump sum payment, which amounts to $1,440,201. As to his immediate plans? The college student will buy his father a Cadillac.
