Sporttrade secures CFTC registrations for sports event contract exchange

Sporttrade has secured US Commodity Futures Trading Commission registrations for its exchange and clearing operations, allowing the company to list sports event contracts and provide clearing services through its own regulated infrastructure.

The CFTC designated Sporttrade DCM LLC as a Designated Contract Market on October 30, 2026. Sporttrade DCO LLC was registered as a Derivatives Clearing Organization on October 16, 2026.

The DCO registration permits Sporttrade DCO LLC to clear fully collateralized futures, options on futures and swaps. Sporttrade’s DCM registration enables the company to operate its exchange for contracts subject to CFTC oversight.

Sporttrade said the registrations allow it to support activity through futures commission merchants, direct access participants, introducing brokers and independent software vendors. Its clearing operation can also provide services to other designated contract markets.

The company told regulators that the exchange will operate an anonymous electronic central limit order book. Sporttrade will monitor trading in real time and on a next-business-day basis, while listed contracts will be cleared on a fully collateralized basis.

Broker connections precede the market launch

Sporttrade plans to roll out its exchange and clearing services in phases, beginning with selected flow and liquidity providers.

The company is onboarding brokers with national distribution, including Fliff, which will route customer orders to the exchange pending regulatory approval. Sporttrade also said it is working with additional brokers and institutional partners.

The company has not announced a launch date or disclosed which sports or contract types will be listed first.

CEO Alexander Kane said Sporttrade has “begun clearing discussions with several exchanges who have understood Sporttrade to be a market leader on exchange and clearing technology for the past five years.”

Kane also said the registrations were “a true full circle moment for our company,” adding: “We founded Sporttrade on the principle that sports markets deserve the same high-performance structure, tight pricing, and regulatory integrity as traditional financial markets.”

Sporttrade enters a growing event-contract market

Sporttrade joins CFTC-regulated venues offering or preparing to offer event contracts. ProphetX was designated in June, according to CFTC records, and recently self-certified contracts tied to a Nevada NFL survivor contest.

The CFTC has recently proposed rules that would classify sports and other event contracts as swaps. Meanwhile, state-level legal disputes also continue, with regulators in several states having asked the US Supreme Court to hear New Jersey’s case against Kalshi.

Sporttrade’s earlier state-licensed consumer sports betting operation is closed. The new exchange is intended for brokers, institutional partners, liquidity providers and other professional participants rather than direct retail sign-ups.
