Louisiana Sports Betting Eyes October 1st Launch

After Hurricane Ida pushed the launch of Louisiana sports betting back, things look to be on track once more. Originally slated to roll out in September, all indications are residents will be able to bet on sporting events by mid-October… if not sooner.

In an interview with USA Today, the Chairman of the Louisiana Gaming Control Board, Ronnie Johns, stated that the state “Our goal now is to have them up and running by Oct. 1st”. However, operators from outside of the state have not been licensed as of yet. The Board hopes to have some at least some of those applications approved within the next 60 days.

Residents who want to place bets on their mobile devices will have to wait a bit longer. And those who want to bet on kiosks in bars and restaurants may be waiting until 2022. The Gaming Control Board did confirm that only eight of the states twenty existing casinos have filed for sports betting licenses.

Louisiana sports betting was originally signed into law this year in June.
