Maryland’s six casinos generated a total of $169.8 million in gaming revenue in July, marking a decrease of $4,501,777 or 2.6% from the same month last year, when revenue stood at $174.3 million.
The casinos’ contributions to the state amounted to $72.2 million last month, a decrease of $1 million or 1.4% compared to July 2023. These funds are critical for various state programs, including the Education Trust Fund, which received $52 million in July 2024, down by $723,245 or 1.4% from July last year.
Casino revenues also support local communities, Maryland’s horse racing industry, and small, minority- and women-owned businesses, as highlighted by the state’s regulator. Maryland’s six privately owned casinos offer both slot machines and table games.
Revenue breakdown by casino:
- MGM National Harbor: Revenue of $72 million, a decrease of $168,366 (-0.2%) from July 2023.
- Live! Casino & Hotel: Revenue of $62.6 million, a decrease of $181,196 (-0.3%) from July 2023.
- Horseshoe Casino Baltimore: Revenue of $13.3 million, a decrease of $2.7 million (-16.9%) from July 2023.
- Ocean Downs Casino: Revenue of $9.6 million, a decrease of $460,462 (-4.6%) from July 2023.
- Hollywood Casino Perryville: Revenue of $7.3 million, a decrease of $206,717 (-2.8%) from July 2023.
- Rocky Gap Casino Resort: Revenue of $5 million, a decrease of $780,591 (-13.4%) from July 2023.
Despite the overall decline in revenue, the casino sector continues to be a significant contributor to the state’s economy and various community programs.
