Washington DC Player Wins $1M Prize from Maryland Lottery

The Maryland Lottery has delivered several winning tickets in the past week along, with one of them winning a seven-figure sum. In addition to the mouth-watering win, dozens of players scooped up smaller prizes.

DC Man Saw a Lot of Zeros

As mentioned, the top lottery prize for last week was a seven-figure sum that came from a scratch-off ticket sold in Prince George’s County. The lucky ticket resulted in a $1 million windfall for one incredibly fortunate player.

According to the lottery, the winning ticket was part of the $1,000,000 Crossword game. The winner turned out to be a retired police officer from Washington DC who, on June 2, visited the lottery HQ in Baltimore to claim their winnings.

The man commented on his win, saying:

It looked like three zeros and then I saw three more zeros.

Winner’s statement

The man didn’t have his glasses with him at the time and asked a friend to check the ticket. The friend was surprised and told him that there were “a lot of zeros.”

While the man had previously won prizes of $1,000 and $5,000, he never expected to become a millionaire. The man said that he will use the money to pay off his car and house and support his kids and grandchildren.

For reference, the winning ticket was sold at Chillum Wine & Spirits at 5813 Eastern Avenue in Hyattsville. As of the time of this writing, there are two more top prizes of $1 million left in the $1,000,000 Crossword game.

More Players in the State Won Big Prizes

In addition to the Washington DC winner, the week of June 1-7, saw 22 more tickets statewide deliver prizes of $10,000 or more and the total winnings. These included a $100,000 prize that was claimed in St. Mary’s County after a player won with a Red 5’s Doubler ticket.

Additionally, winners in Greenbelt, Grasonville and Hampstead won prizes of $50,000, a player in Upper Marlboro won $30,000, and a player in Silver Spring won $25,000.

Last week also saw shops across the state sell several tickets worth $50,000 and $20,000 that have yet to be claimed.

Lottery officials encouraged players to sign the backs of tickets and keep winning tickets in a safe location.
