The iconic Penn & Teller comedy and magic duo announced the signing of a new three-year extension with the Rio Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, ensuring their long-running residency will continue through December 2029.
Record Run for the Duo
The news was revealed during a taping of “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” on Monday night, June 8, adding another milestone to a partnership that has already become part of Las Vegas entertainment history.
Penn Jillette and Teller first brought their show to the Rio in 2001. More than two decades later, they remain one of the city’s biggest attractions and now hold the distinction of performing longer at a single Las Vegas hotel than any other headlining act.
Their impressive Vegas journey started before Rio, with the pair spending six years performing at Bally’s before moving to MGM Grand for two seasons. Since opening at the Rio, however, the show has become a fixture of the city’s entertainment scene.
Over 12,000 Shows
The extension comes as the duo wraps up celebrations surrounding its 50th anniversary tour. Since forming their partnership in 1975, Penn & Teller have built a reputation for blending world-class illusion, comedy and skepticism into a style uniquely their own.
According to Jillette, the pair has now performed more than 12,000 live shows during their career.
“I believe the number of live shows we’ve done is over 12,000,” Jillette said during a recent appearance in London. “We’ve now done more shows than The Beatles and the Rolling Stones put together. That is astonishing to me.”
The duo also previously confirmed that the popular “Penn & Teller: Fool Us” TV series will make a comeback for a new season, with production scheduled to resume in October.
The show, which challenges magicians to fool the famous pair, is entering its 11th season after becoming a long-running success in North America.
While continuing their work together, both entertainers have also pursued individual projects. Jillette is preparing for a United Kingdom tour next year with fellow Las Vegas performer Piff the Magic Dragon, while Teller is supporting the development of a new performing arts and media complex in downtown Las Vegas.
Despite their many ventures, both performers remain focused on the show that made them famous.
“All that has ever mattered to us is the show,” Jillette said. “We have never had any goals other than the show, and as long as we’re doing it, we’ll be very, very happy.”
With the new agreement in place, Las Vegas audiences can expect many more years of magic, laughter and signature Penn & Teller surprises.
