Former NFL Player Denied Parole in Fatal DUI Incident

Henry Ruggs III, a former member of the Las Vegas Raiders, has been denied parole in a DUI case. The case relates to a crash in which the ex-wide receiver caused the death of a woman and her dog.

Ruggs Caused a Fatal Crash

The Ruggs case has been running for several years, starting over four years ago when the athlete drove while under the influence of alcohol, resulting in a fatal crash. Reaching speeds of some 156 miles per hour, he became unable to control his vehicle and crashed into Tina Tintor’s car, causing fatal injuries to her and her dog, Max. For reference, the speed limit was 45 miles per hour.

Ruggs later pleaded guilty to felony DUI causing death and vehicular manslaughter.

The Athlete Was Denied Parole

In 2023, Ruggs was sentenced to between 3 and 10 years in prison. His earliest opportunity for parole was set for August 2026. During a recent parole hearing, the former athlete emphasized that he truly regrets causing the crash, which ended the woman’s life. He said that he is also always thinking about the pain he caused to the living relatives and friends of Tintor.

Not a minute goes by that I don’t think of the pain I caused her family, her friends, and the Las Vegas community.

Ruggs’ attorneys said that they also feel the grief of Tintor’s family and friends.

However, the parole board decided not to grant parole to Ruggs. He will be eligible to reapply for parole in August 2027.

Gambler Caused Crash While Playing on His Phone

Unfortunately, road accidents aren’t anything new. Earlier this year, a British man collided with another vehicle. While there were no fatalities, the crash broke the pelvis of a pregnant woman in the other car and caused her to deliver earlier than expected.

As it turned out, the man had gotten distracted due to the fact that he was gambling on his phone while driving. He pleaded guilty to charges of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and received a 28-month prison sentence.
