Lucas Jumalon outlasted over 9,000 players to capture the 2026 World Series of Poker (WSOP) Main Event title at Horseshoe Casino and Paris Las Vegas on Wednesday night, winning the coveted championship bracelet and taking home the $10 million top prize.
Jumalon Dominated Everyone at WSOP Main Event
The 22-year-old became champion in Main Event history after defeating runner-up Lauri Saaskilahti from Finland, who took home $6 million. Jumalon is the second-youngest WSOP Main Event champion ever, falling just one year short of the record set by Joe Cada, who captured the 2009 WSOP Main Event title at the age of 21.
The rest of the final table also paid out handsomely, with third-place finisher Greg Mueller collecting $3.75 million and fourth-place finisher Michael Gagliano earning $2.75 million. Han Feng received $2.25 million for his fifth-place finish, while Rami Hammoud, Jamie Shaevel, Mario Boos, and Evagoras Evagorou, who placed sixth through ninth, respectively, each walked away with at least $1 million.
But back to the champion, His journey to the title was marked by remarkable adaptability. After ending Day 1, which featured Cardroom Pro Alex Foxen as part of the coverage, Jumalon had just 7,400 chips. However, he stayed alive through disciplined short-stack play that preserved his fold equity. From there, he gradually rebuilt his stack before shifting into a far more aggressive gear as his chip count grew.
By Day 8, Jumalon had firmly taken back control. In one of its defining hands, he flopped a set of jacks against Malcolm Trayner, improved to a full house on the river, and extracted maximum value with a massive 35-million-chip bet that Trayner called.
The pot, worth more than 50 million chips, propelled Jumalon into a commanding chip lead, and from there, he maintained relentless pressure, leveraging his stack to force difficult decisions and systematically eliminate opponents. Jumalon carried a commanding 328 million chip advantage over Saaskilahti‘s 225 million into the Day 11 heads-up match and never looked back, maintaining control until he secured the title.
Jumalon Paved the Way for Poker’s Next Generation
The 2026 WSOP Main Event once again demonstrated why it remains the crown jewel of the annual poker calendar. With the tournament’s return to ESPN coverage, the stage was set for more than just a thrilling conclusion at the poker table.
World Series of Poker CEO Ty Stewart highlighted the significance of the event, saying that youth dominated one of the most energetic final tables in the tournament’s history. He added that the 2026 Main Event and its live television broadcast served as a reminder of what makes the game and its players so special.
