2026 FIFA World Cup Group Stage

Spain started slowly in the Group Stage at the 2026 FIFA World Cup and it could not break Cabo Verde’s steely defense. Spaniards were genuinely stunned at their inability to break through and pummeled the team hard, to no avail.

The question is – can Saudi Arabia repeat this feat? Unlikely, as the team is posted at (+2450) underdog, and Spain will probably find its mettle in the second Group Stage game. Let’s take a closer look at what to expect.

Spain Starts Slow, But Might Find Momentum Against Saudi Arabia

Right, Spain started the tournament with a shock – not able to defeat Cabo Verde despite over 70% ball possession and close to 30 shots, all of which were fended off by the team.

Now, Spain is adjusting – it sees the fact that Cabo Verde was able to withstand the barrage of attacks over a full game as much as the opponent’s own merit as much as Spain’s own shortcomings.

Spain is now wondering where to place Dani Olmo, as the player has been known to consistently deliver well and can rotate different positions with ease. Wherever Olmo plays, he will have the opportunity to rely on Marc Cucurella, who is also a possibility.

Olmo can also tap into midfielders Pedri and Fabian to unlock his potential and deliver when the team needs him to.

But ultimately, what held back the team against Capo Verde should be overcome as Spain comes together to deliver shooting attempts that are converted into goals, and this is precisely what the Europeans are pushing for here.

Can Saudi Arabia Overcome Some Eye-Watering Odds?

Saudi Arabia is unlikely to emerge a winner from this one – and this is the honest truth. While the country was able to counter-attack and secure a goal against Uruguay in the opening game, ending with a draw.

Saudi Arabia was on the backfoot that entire game, with Uruguay landing 27 shots, 10 on target, and scoring once. The South American team also managed to establish a 65% ball possession converting it into important scoring opportunities.

As for Saudi Arabia, it actually was the first team to score in the game, holding steady and Abdulelah Al-Amri scoring in the 41’ for Uruguay to only catch up at the 80’.

Saudi Arabia is capable of playing defense, and it has shown itself capable, but Spain will be a brand new caliber to play against. This means the Middle Eastern team’s attacking potential is there.

It has ample talent to draw from as well, with players such as Salem Al Dawsari, Musab Al Juwair, and Saud Abdulhamid able to shift the momentum and prod for mistakes in Spain’s attack. However, the majority of the game will be played in Spain’s own half.

This game can go either way, but Spain is likely to push the overall score to at least 2 goals in its favor, with Saudi Arabia still having a fighting chance to explore a weakness in the Europeans’ defense.

As to what to pick – the game will go in Spain’s favor, but Under 3 total goals seems like the best choice here.

Pick: Under 3 (+122)
