Lottery retailers usually cheer when they sell a winning ticket, as a bonus is coming their way. The size of the bonus depends on the size of the prize, but it is usually fixed as a percentage of the total amount.
This is what has happened in the case of Prineville’s R&R Grocery, which sold the winning ticket to Oregon Game Megabucks $3.2 million prize. The resulting bonus, amounting to $32,000, was split by the store between the staffers, with the winner from Prineville themselves, but preferring to remain anonymous.
Store owners Debi Morton and Dennis Morton were happy to announce the news and share out the windfall with their staff.
“I’ve been telling regulars, it’s our turn. So now, I’m telling everyone we’re going to concentrate on Scratch-its because we’re due for a big win there. I really believe that I manifested this,” Debi said, commenting on the win.
She added that the goal of the store has been to bring happiness to customers – in whatever form- cheekily suggesting that if this meant winning $3.2 million – “then so be it.”
How exactly the bonus was split is not immediately clear, but the owners said that all nine employees received a bonus, and that part of the money was donated to charity, with another part allocated to expanding current business operations.
